Manager - Capacity & Availability

The Role

  •  Ensuring that Capacity and Performance Management processes are fit for purpose to maintain service quality and performance levels, and, that all processes and controls for managing Capacity and service performance are in place with the appropriate controls and measures.
  • The development and production of capacity reports and plans to ensure that services are matched to business capacity and performance expectations, ensuring service performance and capacity is provided to meet business growth predictions.
  • The pro-active analysis and continuous improvement of end-to-end service performance, identifying and remediating hot spots and bottlenecks in the components supporting service delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Capacity and Performance processes, controls and governance are in place
  • Production and management of capacity reports and plans
  • Lead the Capacity and Performance Management team.
  • Ensure business capacity demands are understood and that IT system capacity is mapped to and meets business capacity needs
  • Ensure cost effective capacity is delivered when required
  • Engage with projects to ensure capacity and performance requirements are understood and systems are designed to meet those requirements
  • Pro-actively analyse IT systems to identify any future capacity or performance constraints
  • Analyse and trend the performance and throughput of online and batch IT services, identifying areas of improvement and work with service and technical SMEs to ensure appropriate remediation
  • Maintain the CMIS and integrate metric sources as required
  • Undertake performance analysis of system data including analysis of new releases on performance
  • Identify and initiate performance tuning to make the most efficient use of infrastructure and software
  • Proactively ensure service meets SLA
  • Liaise with Service Delivery Manager to ensure SLAs can be achieved and that the cost of meeting them is understood

  • A good understanding of statistical and analytical principles and process
  • A good understanding of IT performance analysis

  • Relationship management skills
  • The ability to communicate successfully with all levels of the business
  • Ability to translate technical requirements and specifications into easily understood business concepts and vice versa
  • Excellent listening skills with the ability to apply knowledge gained effectively
  • Experience of working with the following technologies: WAN/LAN, Cisco, VMWare, SAN technologies (NetApp), Windows O/S, Ms SQL, Azure
  • Experience of scripting in Perl, R and SQL


Would be extra good if you would:

  • Experience of working in/with internal IT development business functions
  • Experience of working with Syncsort Athene
  • The ability to manage conflict and difficult situations with other parties
  • Experience of supporting audits.
