Project description

Ortho Baltic is an ISO 9001, 14001, 13485 and 27001 certified designer and manufacturer of medical devices, including the most sophisticated Class III devices. Established in 2001, with 150 people in staff, company breaks down its business into traditional, new and technology development lines. The key traditional line involves designing and manufacturing of bespoke prosthetic-orthotic orthopaedic devices, while the new line consists of development, designing and manufacturing of patient-specific implants and surgical instruments by using virtual 3D tools and 3D printing technologies. The technology line involves development of IT tools to support designing, planning, manufacturing and co-creation processes. Ortho Baltic is export- oriented company (99%). The main markets are Benelux, Scandinavia, Germany and Switzerland. Ortho Baltic actively participates in Horizon 2020 program, is SME Instrument Phase 1 and Phase 2 Champion, winner of “3D Industry Leader” (2015), “Industrie 4.0 Star in Lithuania 2019” (2019).

Company headquarters is located in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Ortho Baltic currently aims to develop 3D model-based pre-surgery planning ICT tools that include biomechanical modelling functionality. Innovative ICT tools will work via Web browser user interface supplemented with Clinical Decision Support System. Aim of the project is to develop surgeon-friendly 3D biomechanical simulation functionality for the use in preoperative planning stage and to practice surgical skills in a risk-free environment. Further, this functionality will be integrated in pre-surgery planning ICT tools. That is why Ortho Baltic is looking for a scientist with competence in biomechanical 3D modelling to join the research team in the development of cutting edge 3D model based pre-surgery planning system.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in development of virtual 3D musculoskeletal human models for different surgical practices by using biomechanical simulation software.
  • Combination of developed musculoskeletal human models and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Work as part of a team developing state-of-the-art 3D model-based pre-surgery planning tools by integrating human musculoskeletal simulation and FEA functionalities.
  • Iterate with user feedback and deliver production-ready software tools.
  • Candidate will work in multidisciplinary teams and in cooperation with academic partners to mitigate fundamental research into fieldable technology and deployable products.

Requirements:

Skills/Qualifications

  • Language: English C1 or better is mandatory.
  • Significant theoretical and practical experience in biomechanical musculoskeletal modelling.
  • Experience with more than one musculoskeletal modelling system is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) testing.
  • Experience in motion capture (MoCap) application in musculoskeletal modelling.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (C/C++, Python, Java) is a plus.
  • Knowledge in medical information systems standards (ISO) is a plus.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, adaptability, organizational skills, attention to detail, analytical skills, problem-solving skills are essential in a fast-developing company.
  • Written and verbal technical communication skills with an ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

Specific Requirements

Education:

PhD in biomechanics, informatics, mathematics or related technical field, with the expertise in 3D biomechanical modelling and simulation.

Applicants must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the Lithuania for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before appointment under the project.
